After the completion of the Pan-American women’s qualification event and the confirmation of the Brazilian and Tunisian National Olympic Committees, the field of participants of the handball tournaments of the second edition of the Youth Olympic Games has been completed.

Those teams will compete in Nanjing, China, from 16 to 28 August:

Men’s tournament: Egypt, Tunisia (both Africa), Qatar (Asia), Slovenia, Norway (both Europe), Brazil (Pan-America)

Women’s tournament: Sweden, Russia (both Europe), China (host), Korea (Asia), Angola (Africa), Brazil (Pan-America).

The draw for the preliminary round groups will be conducted at the IHF Head Office in Basle, Switzerland on Friday, 2 May at 12:00. Both tournaments will be played in two groups with three teams each. The best two nations of each group (men and women) qualify for the semi-finals.

First ever Youth Olympic Games handball champions were the Danish girls and Egyptian boys in Singapore in 2010.
