Netherlands, Hungary, China and Portugal are on top of the Main Round phase at the  IHF Women’s U17 Beach Handball World Championship.

 

Main Round – Group I

The Netherlands had an incredible day at the IHF U17 Beach Handball World Championship. In the morning they beat Croatia 2:0 (26:16 and 20:17) and in the afternoon they defeated Argentina in an exciting continental champions contest. The Dutchies won 2:1 (12:16, 17:9, SO 4:3).


Prior to their loss versus the Dutch, Argentina had taken the points versus Chinese Taipei in two sets (21:9 and 11:9). Taipei also lost to Hungary 2:0 (13:26 and 18:20).


Tomorrow Hungary will match up with the Netherlands in a more than promising European contest. The Croatians will face Chinese Taipei aiming for the 4th rank of the group and a quarter-final spot.

Main Round – Group II


China and Portugal share the first place of the group as they are both on 8 points. The Asian side defeated American Samoa 2:0 (20:11 and 21:7) and then showed their best skills to beat Spain in the shoot-out (27:28, 27:20, SO 8:6).


The Spain ‘Guerreras’ had previously won 2:0 versus Thailand (22:18 and 26:22), who also lost 2:1 to Portugal (24:28, 24:22, SO 0:7). The Portuguese completed a wonderful day with a 2:0 victory over Venezuela (30:16 and 24:14).


The Chinese are playing Portugal on the second Main Round day, as Venezuela will meet Spain and Thailand will confront with American Samoa.

Consolation Round


Paraguay lead the Consolidation Round after their 2:0 wins versus Mauritius (22:4 and 26:3) and Australia (20:2 and 21:6). Tomorrow the hosts will play the Oceania side in search of their first triumph at the competition.
