Hungary, the Netherlands, China and Portugal won their groups as the IHF Women’s U17 Beach Handball World Championship is ready for the Main Round phase.

Group A

The Pan American champions Argentina showed what they are capable of when they beat Croatia 2:1 (17:8, 18:19, SO 6:3) in the opening match of the day. Later, Hungary defeated Paraguay 2:0 (27:10 and 15:10) and closed the preliminary round in great shape with a 2:0 win over the Argentinians. The results were 24:16 and 19:13.

The Croatians recovered from their loss with a 2:0 triumph against Paraguay.17:8 and 18:17 were the numbers on their favour.

2- Argentina (4 pts) (advance to Main Round GI with 2 pts)

Group B

The top European team Netherlands defeated Chinese Taipei yesterday and today they had a rest day. Both sides will proceed to the Main Round.

2- Chinese Taipei (0 pts) (advance to Main Round GI with 0 pts)

 

Group C

China finished on top of the group after beating Thailand in two sets (20:13 and 24:14). Later, Mauritius lost 2:0 to Venezuela (27:5 and 24:2) and the Thai (28:7 and 41:10).

2- Thailand (4 pts) (advance to Main Round GII with 2 pts)

3- Venezuela (2 pts) (advance to Main Round GII with 0 pts)

4- Mauritius (0 pts) (Consolation Round)

 

Group D

Portugal won Group D after springing a major win today versus their neighbours Spain 2:1 (18:17, 20:21, SO 7:4). Both teams put up a real show which was completed by an excellent atmosphere with fans for both sides cheering all match long.

American Samoa gained their first two points as they beat Australia 2:0 (17:16 and 16:10).
