For the Rio 2016 Women’s Handball tournament, 12 teams will battle it out for Olympic glory.

Six teams have already qualified – Brazil as host nation, plus Norway (EHF continental champions), Angola (CAHB continental play-off champions), Argentina (PATHF continental runners-up behind Brazil), Korea (AHF continental champions) and now Spain, thanks to the Norwegian victory.

The three tournaments, in venues set to be announced soon, consist of one group each featuring four teams with the top two qualifying for Rio 2016.

Denmark 2015 Champions Norway automatically qualify directly through to the Olympic Games - Rio 2016 and IHF Women’s World Championship - Germany 2017, but as they had already guaranteed their spot at Rio 2016 after winning EHF EURO 2014, their spot goes to Spain, who finished runners-up at EHF EURO 2014.

    Host Venues

    According to the established rules, the hosting venues of the three qualifying tournaments to the Olympic Games need to be from the lands to have occupied the 2nd, 3 rd and 4th places at the ended World Champions - Netherlands, Romania and Polen.
