Eight European teams compete in the 7th edition of the IHF/EHF Men’s Challenge Trophy in Malta and Ireland this weekend (4 to 6 November).
It is the third time for Malta to host an IHF/EHF Challenge Trophy. Ireland for their part are organizing this event for the second time.
Georgia, England, Faroe Islands and host Ireland compete in tournament 1 in Limerick; Moldova, Scotland, Azerbaijan and host Malta in tournament 2 in Msida. Only players aged 23 or younger are allowed to play at these EHF/IHF Challenge Trophies.
The matches of the tournaments will be played in a round-robin system and the winner of each of the two tournaments will advance to a final match. This will be played in the Pionir Arena in Belgrade (Serbia) on Saturday 21 January 2012 within the framework of the EHF EURO 2012. The winner is qualified for the IHF Intercontinental Trophy 2013.
